Literacy in our country is at an all-time high.

It\’s no secret that books play a huge part in all children’s lives. Numerous studies have also shown that reading to a child as little as twenty minutes per week will not only result in stronger readers but ones who carry a love of literature into adulthood.

Reading books nourishes the brain, and this is true for readers of all ages. However, the brain of a child rapidly increases at a phenomenal speed. This gift enables them to absorb words is like a sponge. By the age of 3, a child\’s vocabulary develops into usually 200 or more words.

Studies have shown that this number amplifies when parents and kids read together, talk about the pictures they see, share ideas, and actively engage in the process of reading. Discussing the book, even setting aside time to recreate an adventure or activity inspired by the book, not only encourage a child\’s love of reading, but it also feeds their beautiful elastic brains!  Literacy is a basic need for the growth of a child.

It is safe to say that all children will grow and develop just fine. Nevertheless, a child\’s growth, development, and learning get an added boost when they are consistently given access to books in the home.
