We connect families and children to nature, wonder, and the magic of being through beautiful books

A Book for Coaching Global Girls

December 8, 2020 by Valarie Leave a Comment

As Book Birthday #3 for the popular non-fiction book, HOW TO COACH GIRLS, nears, the Audrey Press Team continues to be amazed by the feedback and comments from inspired coaches, parents, and volunteer coaches.

Published in February of 2018 and written by Mia Wenjen and former Boston College Head Coach, Alison Foley, this book has continued to change lives all over the USA.

Written with the goal of providing the most comprehensive guide available to the many issues associated with coaching girls, readers are singing the book’s praises. Volunteer parents and experienced coaches across the spectrum of sports including soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, softball, and more are finding invaluable advice on the process of making a successful team, encouraging girls to stay in sports beyond the middle school years.

As the success of this book continues, we were thrilled to discover that HOW TO COACH GIRLS is making an impact with global coaches and girls in sports.

We are loving the review from a very happy mom across the pond in Dublin.

My name is Joyce G and I live in Dublin, Ireland. This year my daughter, (aged 17), was involved in developing a project to help keep young girls (aged 12-13) playing sport. We came across your book on How To Coach Girls and I just wanted to contact you to tell you what a fantastic job you and Alison Foley did in covering such an important, and largely underappreciated, topic.
Aisling and I both absolutely loved the book, the excellent practical advice, and personal stories. We have bought some copies for the coaches in our sports club (it’s a GAA club where the girls play both Gaelic football and camogie) and we are spreading the word as much as we can about what a superb book it is for anyone involved in coaching sport to read,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for your excellent work and to let you know that, even across the Atlantic, we are trying to put your valuable insights into practice! ~Joyce  G.
This invaluable guide is the brainchild of Alison Foley, Head Coach of Women’s Soccer at Boston College, and Mia Wenjen, a parenting and education blogger at PragmaticMom and mother of two daughters, who provide personal accounts to illustrate issues discussed throughout the book.
The combination of Mia’s voice of parental experience coupled with Alison’s professional expertise provides an innovative and highly accessible approach to considering potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. In the final section, a broad range of experienced college coaches, including former Olympians, give crucial guidance on what it is that girls need from a coach to allow them to flourish in sports, and most importantly, have fun.

Gorgeous descriptions of New Orleans paired with a brilliant take on vampire lore, all written with a truly authentic teen voice add up to one thing: Hannah Rials’s writing is breathing new life into the paranormal YA world.

I always suspected that certain picture books give dragons an undeserved bad rap. This delightful picture book clears up dangerous and misleading misconceptions about dragons. Dragons, as it turns out, are gentle creatives that love sweets, hoard books, and, most certainly, are real! I'm getting the word out to my kids!

Visually, this book is GORGEOUS! A Year in the Secret Garden is a treasure trove of activities, crafts, games, recipes and information all related to the classic children’s book, The Secret Garden, bringing to life this wonderful book to a new generation of readers. I cannot recommend this beautifully illustrated and detailed, information-packed book highly enough to parents, homeschoolers, teachers, and librarians. Ages 5+

What a beautiful book! The Waldorf Homeschool Handbook has given me much food for thought by reading it. I love it and even though we have already been homeschooling for almost 8 years now with children in highschool, it has been wonderfully refreshing and has encouraged me to relook at how we go about our homeschooling journey.
